According to World Health Organization (WHO), roughly 15% of the world’s population have some degree of learning disability. It has been a major challenge for disabled persons to cope with their daily lives. As parents, we have a great responsibility to provide our children with practical way to improve their living conditions. As educators, we can also help to improve their learning ability in school and promote their good self-esteem as well. Understanding exactly what learning disability is, can help us to make efforts to search for professional treatment or help for these children. Some parents do not agree or accept that their child has learning disability. Some even blamed themselves for bringing such child into this world, and they felt ashamed of telling others of their child’s condition. Some of these parents feel very shameful to even talk or discuss about this sensitive issue to anyone. National Center for Learning Disailities Researchers suggest that there are 12 definitions of learning disability. But to classify an exact characteristic of each group of people who has the same degree of learning problem, is not yet quite possible. Dance therapy: effects of motor performance of children with learning disabilities It has been very difficult for psychological Institutions in America to classify children with disability. For example, if a child has a very slow development into maturity, and he or she cannot catch up with school work like any other normal children, we may call this child a maturity-lag child. There are also some academy projects which offer some drama or dance sessions for people with learning disabilities, both young people or seniors. |
